May 4 - Meet Me in Morning Stillness

There was gorgeous imagery in this devotion for May 4th. The first line almost tastes sweet as you read it aloud, "Meet Me in morning stillness, while the earth is fresh with the dew of My Presence."

However, the line that truly got to me today was the beginning of the second paragraph. It said that, "The world's way of pursuing riches is grasping and hoarding. You attain My riches by letting go and giving." I got this mental image in my mind of pulling something in our pushing something out with my hands. How beautiful an idea! So many things in this world are about how much you can grab for yourself. We watch game shows on TV which specialize in that area.

Kristin, it makes me think of what you just wrote about, too! (sorry to take your idea!) But so many things that make our God great are defined by the opposite of normalcy in this world. To bring us closer to His Presence, we need to give and let go of earthly possessions. The only thing that we really do need to grasp and hold on to for dear life is our Heavenly Father. I've said it before and Jesus Calling is just making it more clear in my mind, but God is a genius! How brilliant an idea to make His way so opposite to those that we see daily - so that people who follow Him stand out. He's a smart guy :)

Lord - Thank You for this devotional. Thank You for helping Sara Young know what to write so that it challenges us, yet reaffirms our faith in You every day. Thank You for blessing each of our lives in different ways - and help us to follow Your path even if it's scarier and less crowded. We love you, Lord! In Your glorious name we pray, amen!

  1. Wow, Katie, that same line punctured me! I love it because I always try with all of my might to hang on to material things, people, ideas, and feelings but it's when we GIVE and GIVE and GIVE that we truly are rich!

What an incredible concept. I agree- He is quite the genius.

    I love you!
